About Us
TECHMET was established in 1985 in Wadeville, Germiston, and is with Afrisol, Techmet SMT, Brazing and Silver Solders part of SMT AfriTech. The head office and factories are based in Wadeville, east of Johannesburg, with sales offices in Cape Town and Durban. We have ISO 9000 and SANS accreditation and use IPC standards in our process technology.
We hold a large stock of high purity and virgin metals, like tin, silver, copper, antimony and lead to be able to produce to customer demands within days. Our two manufacturing facilities include smelting furnaces, casting moulds, powder atomising, several presses, rolling mill, wire drawing, foil rolling, wire bobbin units, etc. we have X-Ray and Spark Erosion units with International Standards to check metal quality and maintain full traceability. The production range (~300tons/mth) includes:
Industrial solder wires, brazing rods, silver solder, powders, pastes, fluxes and cleaners
Electronic solders, Lead Free & Tin/lead, bars, fluxed core wires 0.5mm, powders, pastes
We manufacture a full range of fluxes and cleaners in our chemical plant
SMT Afritech is a major supplier of SMT lines.
A second part of our business is to support customers with a full range of Surface Mount Equipment from international suppliers to solder and produce assembled PC Boards for TV’s, Set-up boxes, remotes, security panels, cell phones, etc. We set up electronic assembly lines on a turnkey basis, verify customer line outputs, assist in technical faults, service and maintain equipment, test solder pastes, evaluate the quality of soldered pcb’s, qualification of pcb assembly line quality, and do a full chemical analysis on the customer’s solder quality (metallurgical and physical), etc. A recent installed line is placing approximately 250 000 components per hour.
